Top 5 Most Underrated Video Game Movies

2) Mortal Kombat (1995)

The main criticisms of the Mortal Kombat movie are the dialogue and acting is pretty much a joke. But isn't that what video game dialogue was like back in the 90's? Many lines from the original Resident Evil game are literally so bad they have become internet memes. Bad acting in a video game movie should have been an expectation!

Mortal Kombat is a martial arts movie and how many people watch martial arts movies for the plot and acting anyway? The main draw here is the fighting and this movie has plenty of excellent fight scenes. In contrast to the dialogue, the fight scenes are very well choreographed and look great. The special effects are first-rate and still look believable which is impressive considering how old the movie is by now. Johnny Cage fighting Scorpion and the fights with Goro are both very memorable. Sub Zero, another fan favorite, also has a cool fight (pun definitely intended)!

Mortal Kombat wasn't as bloody as some fans might have liked but that was undoubtedly to maintain its PG-13 rating so as to appeal to a younger and broader audience. This turned out to be a good move considering it topped the box offices for three straight weeks and grossed over $122 million. With just a 58/100 aggregate review score on Metacritic, it is a very underrated film. The official soundtrack was pretty sweet, too.
