This one does not make the list simply because it is a great game, it makes the list because it accomplished something that a long string of games failed to accomplish. In fact it accomplished something that every single game in the superhero genre failed to accomplish going back to the first -- it left you feeling like you really were Batman, and that was no easy feat to manage.

It wasn't just the kit and the story, it was the immersive cinema-like quality of the game, its iconic characters, and the willingness of the studio to make you make the tough calls and puzzle out the answers for yourself.

Speaking of answers, while busily going about the process of telling the story, the folks at Rocksteady also took the time to explain a lot of the backstory behind who Batman was, and more important, why Batman was.
