The immersive story combined with the challenges of collecting the treasures and the rewards that were obtained by doing so and the intense sense of constant danger in this instant classic was made even more so by the way that game play and tactics often changed the story and the threats. The often contradictory elements -- the constant hunt for ammunition for example -- helped to solidify its position on the list as a challenging and entertaining epic play.

Still, a lot of games can make claims like the above, the difference is that while they may have many of the same elements, they lack the massive length, depth of story, and the stunning visuals. Basically when Naughty Dog set out to craft it they chose to take all of the truly good elements of the third-person shooter slash epic story genres and put them all together in one single package. They managed to do it without any of it feeling forced, and what you ended up with was a reason to buy a PS3 if you did not already own one!
