How to Unlock Buildings

At the start of the game there will only be a few houses on your island and they will only be inhabited by farmers who are a social class that are restricted to only providing basic facilities such as crops and fish. To be able to unlock new buildings and prepare houses for other social classes you will need to construct more buildings and increase the population of your town. When you complete 'milestones' such as the number of your inhabitants reaches 500 you will unlock access to new more advanced facilities. New social classes for the residents of your town can also be unlocked when you meet specific requirements. For instance if you improve a certain building all of its residents will be promoted automatically to a higher class, it will also unlock access to new building options.

Below is a list of the different buildings in Anno 1800 along with a brief description of their use and cost. Check out our Types of Resources page to find out what each building produces.

Farmers Buildings

Road

Construction cost: 25$ per tile.

Farmer Residence

A house that can be used by farmers arriving on your island.

Construction cost: 2 planks.

Potato Farm

Used you grow potatoes.

Maintenance cost: 10$, 10 farmers

Construction cost: 100$, 2 planks

Schnapps Distillery

Turns potatoes into Schnapps.

Maintenance cost: 30$, 40 farmers

Construction cost: 100$, 2 planks

Fishery

Used to catch fish.

Maintenance cost: 20$, 25 farmers

Construction cost: 100$, 2 plank

Small Warehouse

Stores and hands over manufactured goods.

Maintenance cost: 25$

Construction cost: 500$, 10 planks

Marketplace

Provides dwellers with everyday goods.

Timber Yard

Used to obtain wood.

Sawmill

Chopped wood can be used to make planks.

Fire Station

Puts out any fire in the area.

Maintenance cost: 10$

Pub

Increases your residients happiness when they visit it.

Maintenance cost: 15$

Sheep Farm

Used to raise sheep and gather wool.

Framework Knitters

Used to produce working clothes out of wool.

Workers Buildings

Paved Street

Builds paved street.

Construction cost: 1$, 1 brick

Iron Mine

Builds an iron mine on the available source of iron.

Maintenance cost: 50$, 50 workers

Construction cost: 500$, 4 planks, 5 bricks

Clay Pit

Builds a clay pit on the available source of clay.

Maintenance cost: 10$, 75 workers

Brick Factory

Uses clay to make bricks.

School

A public building which increases happiness of your dwellers.

Maintenance cost: 50$

Pig Farm

Raises pigs.

Maintenance cost: 20$, 10 farmers

Construction cost: 500$, 4 planks

Butcher's

Produces sausages.

Maintenance cost: 75$, 50 workers

Grain Farm

Used to grow grain.

Maintenance cost: 20$, 10 farmers

Flour Mill

Uses grain to make flour.

Bakery

Uses flour to make bread.

Maintenance cost: 60$, 100 workers

Church

A public building which increases happiness of your dwellers.

Charcoal Kiln

Used to produce charcoal.

Used to turn iron and charcoal into steel.

Improves aesthetics of your docks.

Sailing Shipyard

Produces ships.

Maintenance cost: 100$, 40 workers

Depot

Increases the overall capacity of stored goods.

Maintenance cost: 10$

Construction cost: 2500$, 10 planks, 10 bricks

Cannon Tower

Defends your coast against enemy attacks.

Maintenance cost: 30$

Construction cost: 2500$, 10 planks, 10 bricks, 10 construction steel, 5 cannons

Mounted Guns

Defends your coast against enemy attacks.

Maintenance cost: 10$

Police Station

Deals with riots in its area.

Guild House

Increases productivity of nearby buildings.

Town Hall
