Anno 1800 Cheats & Tips

Anno 1800 is a city building real-time strategy video game that takes place in the 19th century at the dawn of the Industrial Revolution. It is the seventh game in the Anno series and features a story campaign that spans four chapters and revolves around a family business where the death of the patriarch sets off a power struggle. It also has a sandbox mode and multiplayer mode that holds up to four players. In Anno 1800 you will discover new technologies, continents, and societies as you build a new world. As with previous games in the series the objective is to colonise a series of islands, meet the needs of a growing and more demanding population, while eventually expanding to other settlements.

Cheats, Tips and Strategy

Build Residences

At the start of the game focus on building as many residences as possible for your people. The aim is to have plenty of houses so that you are able to assign the dwellers to different social groups.

Building Materials

Look to get manufacturing plants that produce materials like bricks and steel up and running as soon possible so you do not have to wait too long before you can start constructing new buildings. Check out our Types of Resources page to see the various materials available in the game.

Blueprint Mode

One of the new features in Anno 1800 is the ability to plan your buildings using the Blueprint mode. Take advantage of this new option to plan your city development in advance and purchase buildings once you obtain enough resources.

Maintain High Productivity

It is important that your buildings maintain high productivity. You can check to make sure this is happening by clicking on the building and ensuring you have assigned the maximum number of employees. You also need to ensure that there is enough free space around or a large farm field so they have room to expand.

Excess Goods

Make sure that your island has enough warehouses to store all your goods and any excess you have is either sold or sent to a different island.

Increase City Atrractiveness

You can significantly increase city attractiveness on your island by building a zoo and museum. You will be able to construct these two culteral buildings by unlocking artisans. New species of animals and valuable artifacts to fill them are mostly obtained through expeditions and trade.

Expansions

It is advised that you take your time and expand your city wisely. You have to consider that you have limited funds and having too many buildings may lead to bankruptcy. You also need to make sure your dwellers are happy with the expansions otherwise they will start to organise protests. Check out our Unlock Buildings page to see the cost of each building available in the game.

Build Shipyards

Send out your boat to explore the surrounding waters, then when you discover islands that contain useful resources build a shipyard there so you are able to exploit the newly discovered island.

Establish Colonies on Islands

Try to get islands you discover with resources producing as quickly as possible by establishing colonies there. This will involve building factory and residential areas. Make sure you keep these areas separate so you increase the overal happiness of the residents.

Control Game Speed

Take advantage of the option to control the game speed by using the + and - keys. You will find this particularly useful when you are waiting for bricks or steel to be produced.
