There are multiple types of weapons that you can acquire in this game, and they are as much important as they are so much fun to use. But there are several factors you need to know before you go wreaking havoc on our undead buddies.
Weapon Types
There are 2 Most Basic Types of Weapons – Melee and Firearms. It is best advised to go through
a mission with at least one of each. Mostly though, you will need to stick with your melee weapons as much as you can. Ammo is very scarce in this game especially during the earlier parts of the game, so you really want to make all those bullets count.
Items are totally randomized in this game, meaning you will always get different kinds of items in a particular container and this applies to weapons as well. It is "sensibly distributed" however, which means you will only find food in restaurants and groceries, guns in gunshops, wooden materials in construction sites, etc.
Melee Weapons
Melee Weapons provide added range and damage to your normal attacks. To execute a finisher, press LB + x. Types of Melee Weapons include Blunt, Edged, and Heavy Two-Handed ones. The Blunt Weapons include golf clubs, sticks, wood, pipes, etc. which smashes enemies. Edged weapons include blades, axes, etc. and slices enemies' limbs effectively incapacitating them. Two-handed weapons are heavy types which takes a toll in your weight limit and makes you slower but deals damaging blows with a wider coverage of attack.
Firearms
Firearms include pistols, revolvers, rifles, SMGs, assault rifles, machine guns, and sniper rifles. They vary in attack speed, weight, sound coverage. Guns are loud so they usually alert enemies nearby but you can attach a suppressor later in the game. You can get ammo from searching containers and deploying supply missions. The supply locker in your home base is another source of ammo, however each ammo will bring down your influence so be careful of that.
Durability
Attacking with anything using a weapon in the animation will reduce durability. Once a weapon breaks, it is gone forever. This is an important factor to take note so you will not lose your weapons unwantedly. They can be repaired though once you acquire a workshop later in the game, in which time you can just leave your damaged weapons in your supply locker and retrieve them back the other day to have them slightly repaired.
Is there a limmit to the number of times a weapon can be repaired?
no. although it is cheating , there are mods that make weapons unbreakable, or even mods that just make it more realistic(i.e pipe wrench is solid steel, highly unlikely to break when smashing human skulls, but table leg is wood, breaks easilym tho compare the table leg to a wooden bat, the baseball bat would last longer etc. Personally i like the weapon realism mod for more accurate weapon degradation.
