Date of Question: May 1 2009 | Question ID: 141643 I need to know if the hunter's dagger if improved will turn out to be the best 1 hand sword on offline mode.. If not.. What weapon is? And also what equipment has the greater defense (not about elements)

To put it simply, yes the Hunter's Dagger will end up to be (more or less) the best Sword 'N Shield in offline mode.
For equipment get full Rathalos, it has the best defense, a good set bonus as well as decent resists (Elemental resistance actually matters for melee. Each wyvern has it's own element that it deals on melee attacks.)
To put it less simply it comes down to preference. The Poison Battleaxe that is at the end of the Hunter's Dagger line has 238 attack, good sharpness and the poison element. The Blazing Falchion which stems from Bone Kris (Bone Kris -> Bonepick -> Red Saber at each junction) also has 238 attack, but instead of poison it deals fire element damage.
My suggestion is start with a PBA, since it's easier to get, and then later make BF for taking down wyverns weak to fire.
