No, sorry. You can't control the dog at all. The only thing you can do is have a Sim shake hands or praise it by tapping on the dog with a free Sim.

You can get other Pets you have to build a Pet shop hen when it's done juts click on it and it will have dogs and cat and if you want a rabbit ypu will have to go to the home settings and click on the box that says pets

To answer these questions on Pets, I have some things to say and set straight.
1) Pets can't be individually controlled
2) They do have Items for Pets to play with and sleep on and to eat from, this will be in the buying section under the pets tab. This tab ONLY appears after The Pet Shop is built.
3) To build a Pet shop,you need a certain number of Sims in your town and money and be at a specific level. It won't take long to get to it.
4) You can own different Pets at the same time in the same household
5) The only Pets I've seen so far are rabbits, dogs, and cats
6) when the Pets dig for treasure, you have no way in controlling the amounts they dig up. But you can influence the frequency by always praising it whenever it comes inside of the house.

There is a way of training the dog. Put the dog in a room by building it over it amd leave it in there no way for it to get out for a full day real life. It will stay there (works)
