When You Find Weapons and Where
Here's a list of the types of weapons in Oblivion and what levels you'll find them on. Going from the worst to the best
Replica:
One word, useless.
Rusty Iron:
At the beginning of the game the player will run into these weapons. They are simply the worst in the game. The iron mace, even with 100 in your blunt skill will only deal 7 pts. Of damage.
Iron:
Iron weapons are available from the beginning, and come in any type you could think of. Daggers, bows, swords, anything. Fine Iron:
They look just like normal iron weapons but weigh less, are worth more, and do more damage. But they're a rare find. Fine Iron arrows do not exist.
Steel:
Steel weapons are like iron weapons. They're stronger, weigh more, deal more damage, and are more durable though. And aren't made from the crude craftsmanship of iron weapons. They appear at level 3.
Fine Steel:
More decorative than normal steel weapons, but are actually EXTREMELY rare. Like fine iron weapons, they weigh less, deal more damage, and are more durable. Fine steel arrows do not exist.
Silver:
Deal more damage than those above, but they're less durable. They can harm ghosts even if they're not enchanted. They appear at level 6.
Dwarven:
Heavy and durable, dwarven weapons are harder to repair than the weapons listed above. They'll appear around level 6 also. To Oblivion frantics you may find this little piece of info valuable, every dwarven example is thousands of years old!
Mithril:
To cool the argument down about mithril armor and weapons it has been confirmed that there is no such thing as mithril weapons in the game. Only armor.
Elven:
Less durable than most, but easier to repair and do more damage. They are the highest type of weapons that shops will sell. But coming across one with a single Elven weapon is rare.
Glass:
Very hard to repair, but deal signifigantly greater damage than other weapons and they are very durable. Glass weapons often appear around level 16, much earlier than glass armor. Glass armor and weapons have a unique greenish glow at night time.
Ebony:
Greater than glass, and harder to repair, and are also very heavy and rare. But they are also extremely durable. They'll appear around level 18. But some bows have been seen around 15.
Dremora:
They're exactly the same as Daedric weapons but are signifigantly weaker than Daedric types. Dremora weapons will appear on most Dremora warriors at any level. Dremora arrows and bows DO exist. Bows come in two types, Heavy and Light. The only difference in the two is their damage, and their value, not their wieght. The arrows come in two types as well. Field and Barbed. Both will deal 8 pts. In damage, but Field arrows wiegh 1 pound each and Barbed arrows weigh 2 pounds each.
Daedric:
The best weapons in the game, but also the rarest and hardest to repair. Extremely heavy too. Be sure to get as many as you can get from Oblivion's Dremora Markynaz and Valkynaz because when the main quest is complete you'll have to find them from bosses and bandits. They appear with their armor at level 20.
