First you multiply paintbrushes say about 100-200, drop 1 and it will float and drop another next to it. Jump on it and keep repeating these steps. Might not be 100% accurate but thats how I did it

CMBF answered:

Because the paint brush is one of the only objects in the world that has no physics at all applied to it, so when they are dropped they will stay pretty much wherever you were targeting with the pointer – so for example you can literally leave them floating in mid-air if you wanted to... Why you would want to would be a personal issue – just kidding!

Seriously though this is a wicked useful glitch because you can use them in ways that the devs really did not intend – for example as pointed out above they have no physics applied to them so they will stick wherever you drop them, but once you drop them they react like solid objects, so you can place them and use them as stepping objects to gain access to areas in the game that are otherwise not accessible – you can also use them as personal spikes on the walls of your house for hanging objects on – like shields or other objects that can be hung on them.

Another interesting use of them is to take just one and strategically position it in the center of a doorway or the opening to a passage, which will then block pretty much every NPC from walking through it. It should not be too difficult for you to come up with a dozen ways that THAT can be exploited...

The catch here – you knew there was a catch, right? – Yeah, the catch here is they are not exactly plentiful, so to really make use of them you will first need to locate one and grab it, and then use the cloning glitch to duplicate it so you have a sufficient quantity to get the job done.

Drop a paint brush and in the direction your looking it will be floating there(unless you have patch)
