Similar to your characters, weapons can be further improved to increase their stats and improve their passive effects. In this page, we will discuss the various methods of improving your characters' weapons.
You can increase your weapon's level by using other weapons (preferably junk, low-quality) weapons as fodder. You can obtain these fodder weapons normally when opening supply chests. Otherwise, you'll have to use Energy Cores to provide Weapon EXP - similar to what Resonance Potions.do for your characters.
You also don't have to worry about the excess EXP you'll get from using too much high-level energy cores as these will be automatically converted into lower-grade energy cores that you can use for your other characters (or on the same character after the level cap is removed). You can conveniently use the Auto-Select button at the Weapon Upgrade screen to automatically select all the old weapons and Energy Cores.
Energy Cores come in different grades (color). Each (color) gives a fixed amount of EXP for your weapon; you can use them individually or by batch to instantly level up your weapon by a few levels or until they hit their current level cap. The maximum level your characters (and weapons) can reach is LV90, which can only be achieved through Ascension (please refer to the next section)
| Energy Core | Color | EXP Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Basic Enery Core | Green | 1000 EXP |
| Medium Enery Core | Blue | 3000 EXP |
| Advanced Enery Core | Purple | 8000 EXP |
| Premium Enery Core | Gold/Yellow | 20000 EXP |
The best and most efficient way of farming for energy cores is by completing the Simulation Training challenge in Jinzhou. You need to spend 40 Waveplates after every battle to claim your rewards. This is conveniently repeatable so you can spend all your waveplates
As you increase your SOL3 Phase level, the quality of energy cores that you may obtain increases as well You can also get Energy Cores from other sources such as completing quests, finishing events, or from supply chests though these have finite numbers, unlike the Simulation Training where your only limit is the amount of Waveplates you can afford to spend.
Similar to characters, weapons will reach a level cap. To remove this limit, you have to perform a weapon Ascension where you have to spend specific materials. In this case, weapons share the same type of materials needed to improve their wearer's skills. For example, characters with rectifier weapons will use Cadence Seed, Bud, Leaf, and Blossom to improve their weapons and skills. On top of that, you'll also need common Tacet cores and Rings (Whisperin, Howler) dropped by normal enemies and from completing Forgery Challenges. Please refer to the table below to learn what weapon and skill materials will be needed to ascend specific weapons
| Weapon Ascension / Skill Upgrade | Material |
|---|---|
| Sword | Heterized Metallic Drip, Polarized Metallic Drip, Reactive Metallic Drip, Inert Metallic Drip |
| Rectifier | Presto Helix, Andante Helix, Adagio Helix, Lento Helix |
| Broadblade | Waveworn Residue 239, Waveworn Residue 235, Waveworn Residue 226, Waveworn Residue 210 |
| Gauntlets | Cadence Blossom, Cadence Leaf, Cadence Bud, Cadence Seed |
| Pistol | Flawless Phlogiston, Refined Phlogiston, Extracted Phlogiston, Impure Phlogiston |
You can tackle Forgery Challenges to farm Weapon and Skill Materials. After discovering an entrance to a Forgery Challenge domain and unlocking it, you can conveniently teleport to it using the map or via the Guidebook.

Claiming your rewards for successfully clearing the Forgery Challenges will cost 40 Waveplates. On top of the Ascension materials you can get for completing the domain, you'll get the following rewards on any of the domains:
| Forgery Challenge | Exclusive Rewards | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Flaming Remnants | Heterized, Polarized, Reactive, and Inert Metallic Drip | Sword weapon Ascension, sword-user skill upgrade |
| Misty Forest | Presto, Andante, Adagio, and Lento Helix | Rectifier weapon Ascension, rectifier-user skill upgrade |
| Eroded Ruins | Waveworm Residue 239, 235, 226, 210 | Broadblade weapon Ascension, Broadblade-user skill upgrade |
| Moonlit Groves | Cadence Blossom, Leaf, Bud, and Cadence Seed | Gauntlets weapon Ascension, Gauntlets-user skill upgrade |
| Marigold Woods | Flawless, Phlogiston, Phlogiston, and Impure Phlogiston | Pistols weapon Ascension, Pistols-user skill upgrade |
As your Union Level and SOL3 Phase Level increases, the higher the possibility of getting high-quality material drops (even possibly dropping gold materials) whenever you claim your rewards post-battle.
Both weapon and skill materials can be upgraded through the process of "Purification" through the Synthesis console. This process allows you to convert three lower-quality materials to get one higher quality. To make it more easier to understand, just think of the material quality in their assigned color schemes:
For example, you need to convert 3 Cadence Seeds (green) to get 1 Cadence Bud (blue). The same idea goes with the tacet cores and rings.
Weapon Tuning is the process of using another copy of the same weapon as a fodder to permanently improve that weapon's passive skill. You can improve a weapon's skill up to rank 5. Aside from weapons that you can craft, the only way to obtain copies of worthwhile weapons (purple and gold) is through Convening (wishing/pulling) And since the weapons you'll get are random (with increased appearance of the featured weapons), the task to max out your weapon tuning will take a while or not - depending on your luck.
It's even harder for 5-star weapons since their drop rates are already low. Even with the guaranteed pity rate, it will still take you a while (and a lot of resources) to get another copy, unless you're really lucky in getting the copy in just a few pulls.
Simply put, if you're just starting the game and you got another copy of a 5-star weapon, you'll get the most out of your weapons by giving them to someone else in another team. Having another character with a 5-star weapon is better than having a single character with a rank 2 weapon.

For 4-star weapons, generally, they're great to be used for Tuning immediately (remember to toggle the lock icons on them, enabled by default) unless your account is new and you'll need to let other characters have their own decent weapons.
Weapon tuning can be done as a second button from within your menu, in the same screen where you can level up and ascend your weapons.
