It is inevitable that at some point during Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodhunt your character will take damage. It is therefore important that you fully understand how healing works in the game. This Feeding Guide will tell you everything you need to know.
Draining a human civilian of blood in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodhunt will fully replenish your health, so it is essential that you track them down on the streets of Prague whenever your character has taken damage and needs to heal. However, there are two reasons why you should only feed when it is a necessity. First, every single player on the map can use their vampire senses to detect fresh sources of blood which they can then use as traps to easily take you down while you are in a vulnerable position. The second reason is that when you feed on a human to refill your health you break the agreed upon rules of The Masquerade.
'In the lore of World of Darkness, The Masquerade is the agreed upon rules that vampires live by in order to ensure the human world doesn't catch on to their secret organizations. Part of these rules are to never attack, feed, or use your vampire powers openly to the public. This is also true in Blood Hunt. If you feed on somebody while another civilian is watching or actively shoot and harm a non-combatant, that is considered a breaking of The Masquerade'.
If you break the agreed upon pact rules you will be bloodhunted which means your location on the map will be highlighted in red and every player will be able to see you. This will last a for a full minute in which time you will desperately need to survive being an easy target for other players.
Although you can also replenish your character's health through consumable syringes and blood packs and not trigger the bloodhunt doing so will not give you the persistent buffs that you are rewarded when you drain a human civilian of blood. When you use your vampire senses you will notice that the various blood sources glow in different colors, each of these colors correlate to a certain type of blood and the kind of benefits they give. The different types of blood and their effect are as follows:
Choleric Color: Orange.
Effect: Increased melee attack damage
Sanguine Color: Pink.
Effect: You slowly recover health over time.
Melancholic Color: Purple.
Effect: Reduced cooldown of your leftmost ability.
Phelgmatic Color: Light Blue.
Effect: Reduced cooldown of your rightmost ability
All of these effects can stack up to three times. However, you can only have three active buffs, called blood resonance slots, active at a time.
When you recieve the message 'Missing Resonance Slot. Drink enemy blood to increase capacity' it indicates you need to drink the blood of an enemy to feed more. The three sources of enemy blood in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodhunt are:
Entity Soldiers:
These are the NPC soldiers that are decked out in battle armor and carry high-powered assault rifles that patrol the various camps that are scattered throughout the map. Avoid getting into a firefight with this type of enemy as reinforcements and other players will converge on your location. Take this enemy down, drain them of their blood, and get away from the camp as quickly as you can.
Vampire Hunters:
This NPC human enemy roams the map seeking vampires, you need to be careful as this enemy blends in with civilians making them difficult to spot.
Other Players:
Whenever you down another player you have the option to diablerize them.
When you diablerize another vampire you are draining them of their blood, giving you more blood resonance slots. Diablerizing another player will not only fill your blood resonance slots, it will also give you an incremental boost to a traversal power or special power.
