How to Defeat Kagerou

Shogun Kagerou is the demon samurai that destroyed Hiroki's village, killed his master, and sent him to Yomi. As you play through the game you will encounter Kagerou several times, but it will not be until you reach Chapter 7 that you will not be at a disadvantage and will have a good chance to permanently end his reign by killing him. First Phase

The final encounter with Kagerou takes place in a dojo at the end of Chapter 7, he is the toughest boss to defeat in Trek to Yumi as he comes with two distinct phases, which means you have to deplete his health bar twice. The main move you will need to use in first phase is the pass-by technique which you can learn in Chapter 3, which enables you to parry and then swap places with the enemy while opening them up for further hits. You will also need a heavy move that can deal plenty of damage such as the turning heavy attack or the dodge roll into a heavy attack. In this phase you need to focus on trying to parry Kagerou and hit him as hard as possible with successive strikes. Keep in mind he has full armor so light attacks are a waste of time. You will find Kagerou's attacks easy to parry as their timing are the same as the regular enemies' attacks. You will also find the most effective attacking moves are those that thrust and quick slash. Make sure you back off whenever Kagerou makes three vertical slashes as these deal a lot of damage. Once you manage to deplete Kagerou's health bar, a cutscene will play before the second phase begins.

Second Phase

Once you enter the second phase you will find Kagerou's has gained some magical moves and is able to disappear once you have whittled down his HP to half full. His physical moveset is still the same as before with most of his attacks being easily defended. Make sure you dodge away from his new AoE attacks that explode. When Kagerou performs the bigger of the two explosions he will fall to his knees momentarily and be vulnerable to an attack. When Kagerou's health is down to half he will disappear and summon two spectral versions of himself. The younger version has no armor so use light attacks against him. He will block most of them, but after a few get through he will drop. The current version of Kagerou wears heavy armor but has the same attacks as the first phase so use those tactics to defeat him. Once you defeat both of these forms Kagerou will return to his corporeal form with half HP which you need to keep chipping away at with attacks until he is dead.
