I'm glad that the stealth/action genre is finally getting some attention. With Ubi Soft's brand new installment to the Splinter Cell series, everything gets better, and after playing through this game, you will realize why this is one of my top favorite games of all time.
Splinter Cell games have always been known for their graphics. Heck, the first Splinter Cell game for the Xbox still has some of the best lighting effects on the Xbox. When Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow came out, the in-game graphics were cleaned up and refined from the first. Now with Chaos Theory, the graphics engine has been redone and built from the ground up and the result is perfection. After seeing the amazing lighting effects and character models, you'll never go back to the old Splinter Cell games. This game has graphics that I would expect from the Xbox 360. Seriously, I have spent a huge lot of time simply looking at the environments and characters. I have never seen a more realistic looking game (except for Doom 3 or Half-Life 2 for the PC, but those don't count.) In fact, the in-game graphics beat out the cutscenes in the game; they're that good. Here's a scary thought: imagine what Splinter Cell 4 is going to look like on Next-Gen systems. Go out and buy this game for the visuals alone; if I could rate the graphics, I would want to give it a 15 out of 10.
The sound quality in Chaos Theory is nothing short of astounding. Unlike the first two Splinter Cell titles, Sam Fisher and all of the enemies have hundreds of things to say. For example, bad guys express emotion and they could talk like they are actually scared or vigorous to find you. The best new thing that was put in for Chaos Theory is a sound meter. This will tell you how loud you can be and the surrounding noice in the environment. It adds a totally new realistic approach to the game, and really makes you feel like a super spy.
I fell in love with the gameplay when I first played this game. There are now dozens of ways to take out your opponent, like hanging from ledges to snap their neck, or slitting their throats with Sam's new combat knife. Playing in Co-op mode opens up options on how to beat your opponents. Pandora Tomorrow's multiplayer mode is also included in Chaos Theory, with a few bonus maps to go with it. Both the shadow nets and the mercs are equally interesting to play, and it will never get old.
Chaos Theory, right up there with Halo 2, will be one of those game that you will remember the Xbox for. After you beat a level, you will recieve a rank percentage. It does nothing to affect the gameplay, but you can always go back and try to up your overall score. If this game had just it's single player option, I would still recommend it for one of the best Xbox titles of all time. It also has some of the best online games to play, including deathmatches, and online co-op modes. Chaos Theory is one of those game that will last a very long time.
Overall, I can't see anything wrong with Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. There are no problems that stand out, and everything runs silky smooth. My onlt complaint is that it gets pretty challenging after two thirds of the game. However, this is truly a game that you will be coming back to play for a long time. People say that Halo 2 is the best Xbox game to date, but Splinter Cell Chaos Theory should give Halo fans a run for their money.
