In The Walking Dead: Survivors there are two types of characters, these are development survivors and combat survivors, and they are proficient in different areas of the game. Development survivors are adept at speeding up the production of resources and getting instant rewards while combat survivors specialize in PvE/PvP Fights.
You can get familiar with each of the characters skills and learn their strengths and weaknesses by going to the 'Survivor' menu and tapping on the survivor portrait. To level up the Development survivors requires Development EXP and the combat Survivors require Combat EXP. The three types of combat troops in The Walking Dead: Survivors are melee, ranged, and cavalry and they each perform differently during battle. To unlock higher-tier combat survivors you need to upgrade the associated building where they train. Melee troops train in the Fire Station, ranged troops in the Police Station, and the Cavalry units in the stable.
In order to recruit more survivors to your town you must tap the Broadcasting facility, this is the building that houses a radio which you use to summon them. Tap 'Recruit' and then choose the radio option of your choice. The game gives you free transmission attempts daily, or you can the long and short range transmission tickets you earn during the game. Summoning survivors is not always successful, you may just get their fragments/shards or skill medals.
