Development Technologies will offer you a wide range of benefits according to gathering more resources and reduce your waiting times, such as:

Tips
In times when you are inactive, send some troops to scavenge sites on the map to gain more resources. Improving the 'Scavenger' technologies will increase your yield out of it. It is important to remember that when your troops are outside your town they cannot protect you against other players attacking you. But as a benefit they won't die or get hurt as well if stronger players are raiding you.
