The first Pokemon game I ever played was Pokemon Crystal and I loved it! It was what started my addiction with the Pokemon World and I've been using ever since! Now I was mostly excited when I heard of HG/SS so I got Soulsilver straight away. And I've been playing since. A few new features were introduced like the new Wi-Fi Plaza and Global Trade Station Improvements and of course Pokeathlons. Also Apricorns(which you can turn in to cool new Pokeballs)was reintroduced from the original.
Well... This is the awkward part... This may be the worst part of the game but in Pokemon it's important not to be too flashy and stay traditional.
I love the way certain Pokemon look when they're walking next to you. It's actually not that bad considering It's Pokemon but nothing has really changed since D/P/Plat. The Pokemon look awesome although some are questionable.
Again it's not great but I got nostalgia listening to it. But that's just it. It doesn't sound million times better than a GBC like it's supposed to and it get's monotonous. Still like it though and it sounds appropriate most of the time. Some music really sets the tone.
The classic formula! Catch, battle, train and evolve. That's what the series is about. You can catch 250 different Pokemon at first but more if you've completed the game. You have to beat all 16 gyms in Kanto and Jhoto and then the Elite four. Battling is easy once you get to it. Your Pokemon can have 4 moves which it uses in a turn-based battle system. A new gameplay element emerges:the ability to walk with your Pokemon in game and with the Pokewalker. The walker enables you too put Pokemon on it and walk with it to gain steps which unlocks new routes. You can catch Pokemon and find Items on the Pokewalker too at the expense of Watts which is the Pokewalker currency. Whatever Pokemon game you play there's one guarentee... You'll never stop!
There's so much things to do when you "finish" the game you can't call it "finished". You can catch legendary Pokemon, you can use the new awesome safari zone and there's lot's of side quests. Also there's no real end to training your Pokemon so that you can battle friends locally or online.
Not much improvement since Pearl, Diamond or Platinum but still the ultimate Pokemon experience! I highly suggest you buy this game if you want to have a Pokemon game, It's also compatible with the above mentioned game so even if you have those you should still buy it!
