I am relatively new to Pokemon... I became a fan back in June 2016. That year being without a new game, Pokemon Moon was the first Pokemon game I watched develop over the trailers and leaks of this summer. It looked absolutely stunning, and the full game doesn't disappoint.
Stunning. That pretty much sums it up. But for the sake of the review, I will go into greater depth, of course. Pokemon X was a graphic revolution for Pokemon, finally entering the realm of 3D games; an arguably much-needed improvement to entice the kids of today, now much less willing to play games with poor graphics. As much as Pokemon X was 3D, it simply felt... Rough on the edges. The pixel count was dramatically increased in Moon, giving a crisp, much more immersing experience, not to mention the cutscenes quality was even higher than during normal gameplay. Another detail highly improved was facial expression. Your rival Hau, for example, has around 5 different expressions from what I remember. There were still looping actions and gestures of course, but for all that, they still felt better.
Sound has always been Pokemon's strong point, and you will certainly not be disappointed here. Music is really important during those epic, decisive battles such as the Elite 4, Champion, Trial Bosses, and Legendary encounters. Especially during cutscenes, music really conveys the mood of the moment.
Exp Share is still here to make our lives easier, but in my opinion it was notably nerfed... Although a little grinding is still necessary. The one point deduction is for the strange lack of trials in the game. For being such a central goal, there are only Spoiler:
Pokemon tops any lastability list... At least for those with patience. The story itself lasts around 25 hours, depending on your skill at solving puzzles and battling or lack thereof. I haven't explored the Battle Tree myself, but I'd assume it will add a lot of extra play time. But if you're a competitive player who carefully EV trains and breeds your Pokemon to battling perfection, this is only where the fun begins. Resetting your game for the best stats on a legendary or for that coveted Shiny Starter Pokemon, multiple breeding steps, grinding to level a Pokemon up, and finally the hard-earned competitive battling time. Pokemon is among the top lastability games around.
Absolutely best storyline ever. Moon deviates from the traditional Pokemon plot story enough to make it fresh and fun, but stays true to the traditional story enough to satisfy the longtime fans (hopefully). Still, as in Gen 6, somewhat of a lack of new Pokemon, but this fact is made up for by each new Pokemon getting either it's own signature move, it's own signature ability, or both. For those competitive battlers, the new options give a fresh, stimulating look to the new metagame. Pokemon Moon is the perfect blend of new twists and a classic favorite game.
