Pokemon Emerald is the new Pokemon game that came out sometime in May last year. And it has been greeted with a mixed response. While some say that it's a horrible game, nothing more than a very bad mix of Ruby and Sapphire, most of the people disagree. They believe that Emerald is in fact WAY better than either of them, and they've got their own arguements. Who is right? Let's find out...
Okay, we all know that neither the GBA has a good history when it comes to graphics, nor Pokemon. However, when it comes to Emerald, the graphics are (relatively) good. See, the weather effects, the in-battle animation, the new and improved attack animations, the shadows and reflections... Well, you can say that this has probably some of the best graphics on GBA and THE best graphics when it comes to Pokemon... Until Pearl and Diamond come out.
Though the music that's coming in the background is fantastic (it tends to get a little repititive after a while), there is a problem that perhaps no one has noticed: the volume of Pokemon Emerald is a lot lower than other GBA games like, say Buu's Fury? So simply because of that, Emerald loses out on sound, otherwise, it might have got an eight. You can live with it though, if you have the earphones (I don't).
I wish I could have given it 11. Pokemon Emerald promises the best gameplay in all of Pokemon. Where Ruby and Sapphire lost out right after the fantastic Gold/Silver/Crystal, Emerald makes up. It's like... probably like Age of Mythology after Age of Empires (the first part). The forced double battle concept is marvellous, the Battle Tent even more so... All in all, this is an RPG with a difference.
The actual Pokemon Emerald (which means the game before the Pokemon League) is quite short. Just eight to nine hours of dedicated gaming and you're through! But then, why has this often been hailed as one of the longest GBA titles ever? Why indeed...
Pokemon Emerald actually has a lot even after the E4. There is the Battle Frontier, which is nothing short of winning gym badges again. Then, an extension to the Safari Zone makes Johto Pokemon available, and you'll have a blast trying to catch 'em all! And the quest for the legendaries intensifies in this game like never before! With ALL of the legendary Pokemon available except Suicune, Entie, Raikou, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltress and Celebi, you'll have some time showing of your 'ancient' battle team! Also, there is the facility of re-battling the gym leaders right after the E4! The game is pretty much never ending, because it's almost impossible to catch all 386 monsters! And the fact remains that apart from Crystal, this game has probably the best story and repeat value ever!
Let me tell you something, graphics and sound mean nothing to me. There was a time when Pokemon Blue, even with it's horrible graphics was one of my favourites. And it's not that Emerald has bad graphics or anything... They're pretty good. Also, the lastability, gameplay, story and repeat value of the game probably make it one of the BEST GAMES EVER TO HAVE COME OUT ON ANY PLATFORM, NINTENDO OR NON NINTENDO! So my verdict- go for it, before they're all sold out!
