HM (Hidden Machines) Locations

Hidden Machines or HMs as they are more commonly known as are abilities your character finds during your journey that can be taught to a Pokemon in your party. They can typically help the Pokemon get through environmental obstacles or to travel long distance. This HM (Hidden Machines) Locations guide will tell you where you can find them in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl.

HMs in the Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl remakes work differently to the way they did in the 2006 Nintendo Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl games. HMs are now no longer given to you as a reusable tool to teach the move to multiple Pokemon. Instead it is given to you as a single-use TM that can be loaded to your PokeGear and then used to summon wild Pokemon to help you out with the ability at any time. The only way to unlock HMs is to find them as you venture through the campaign. Listed below are all the HMs you can get in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl and where you can find them.

Rock Smash

Rock Smash is the first HM you will get in the game and it is earned by entering Oreburgh Gate. A Hiker will gift you the move at the entrance, but you will not be able to use it until you defeat the first gym.

Fly

Fly is earned after entering Team Galactic's warehouse base in Veilstone City.

Surf

Surf can be found in Celestic City after you have defeated Team Galactic in the Ruins. Cynthi's grandmother will appear and grant you the move Surf when you check out the paintings on the wall.

Cut

You will be given Cut after entering Eterna City and conversing with Cynthia.

Strength

You will find Strength at the peak of The Lost Tower which can be located on Route 209.

Defog

Defog can be located at the Great Marsh Gate near Pastoria City by talking to the Green haired person on the right after entering the Great Marsh.

Waterfall

You can earn Waterfall when you have defeated Vokner, the eighth gym leader. Once this is done, head to the beach at Sunyshore City and speak to Jasmine.

Rock Climb

If you head to route 217 you will find a cabin within the snowstorm area. Once inside, speak to the Hikers. Upon exiting, you will see items in the snow, which includes TM100 Rock Climb.
