Go into your inventory and drag the cursor over the item you want to drop. Look at the bottom left part of the screen and it should give you an option to drop whatever item you want to drop.

HIT the tab and it will bring item down bring in front of you what item you want to drop hit the r and it will drop in front of you ....Pat Reichard

I need help with this! I tried to press R and NOTHING HAPPENED! I went to the controls, nothing was set to R, but it still wouldn't drop anything. Now my sister and I are stuck being super slow with no way to drop items. I ate all of my food, drank the potions I didn't need, and I am way too slow to make it back to Whiterun. I can't fast travel either. It sucks.

I had the same issue. Turns out you have to use the key you bound to whatever R was. For me I changed my sheath weapon key from R to NUM0, so try the sheath weapon button whatever you bound it to.
