Outward is an open-world RPG set in Aurai, a fantasy world filled with magic and exotic creatures. In this life simulator you play the role of an ordinary adventurer who embarks on perilous expeditions across untamed lands to reach new cities, undertake varied missions and discover hidden dungeons crawling with formidable enemies. In order to survive in this deadly world you will not only need to be cunning and clever, but also physically prepared by getting enough sleep, eating and staying hydrated.
Refill your Lantern
In order to refill your lantern you need to combine your lantern and oil in the Crafting menu.
Realistic Compass
The map and compass mechanics are realistic, this means you will have to use basic directions and landmarks to navigate where to go.
Healing
When you need to heal use bandages or eat certain foods. You can also use life potions which can either be bought or crafted.
Finding Safe Zones
When you setup your tent/bedroll look for a location that has butterflies as this notifies you that you are in a safe zone with 0% chance of being attacked. Also, whenever you die and are rescued by a fellow adventurer, they are more than likely to leave you in a safe zone.
Make a Backpack
Early in the game you should focus on upgrading your equipment. Making a backpack is the most important thing to do as this piece of equipment will allow you to carry more items.
Remove Backpack
Make sure you remove your backpack before engaging battle with enemies otherwise it will slow down your movement.
Reduce Inventory Wieght
Buy gold bars as often as possible as doing so will reduce inventory weight.
Fighting Enemies
You will need to be careful when facing enemies as they are able to deal massive damage and healing is very slow. The best strategy is to block their attacks and make use of dodges to avoid their attacks. Check out our Best Weapons page find out what the best weapons in the game are.
Fish
If you have a fishing harpoon you can fish by walking to any shore, look for bubbles in the water and then clicking the fish to acquire them. Check out our The Fishing Harpoon page to learn more about fishing.
Use your Bow
Your bow is a ranged weapon, use it to shoot the enemy before they get too close to you. It is particularly effective against bandits and hunting chickens.
NPCs
Always keep an eye out for NPCs that can train you in various skills as this will increase your character's level.
Saving
Remember that the game saves automatically, when you quit the game it will save where you left off.
