My son has found all 10 of the mini-kits on many levels but now he wants to know what the purpose of the prize is. Can you play some of the levels with the X-Wing Starfighter or the TIE Fighter or whatever it is that he gets by finding all of the mini-kits? Do you get to play a level with whatever the prize is for getting all 10 mini-kits in the entire episode? For example, if he finds all of the mini-kits in Episode 1, does he get to play with Gungan Bongo? I just don't understand the purpose of the mini-kits yet.

The purpose of the mini-kits is to show important things from the movie....built in legos. It's for fun and giggles, but it's also for the game since you have to collect them to unlock secrets.
Minikits give you an extra challenge, a gold brick, and models in the minikit room. There is a reward model for getting all minikits.

Yeah minikits unlock extra playables in the console version.
