Those who have spent time playing Resogun will quickly notice many striking similarities between it and Nex Machina. This however is not a bad thing by any stretch as this new game has inherited most of Resogun's best traits and more. Perhaps the biggest immediate difference is how forgiving this game is when it comes to giving continues, which eliminates the need to restart a level from the beginning each time you run out of lives.

The lowest (default) difficulty setting has unlimited continues but this drops significantly the higher the difficulty goes, but those are reserved for the most experienced of players. The only drawback of using a continue is that your point count will reset to zero each time you do.

It's also worth pointing out that you don't really lose your powerups upon dying, so long as you are able to return to the spot where you died and retrieve it. If you were to die again before reaching the upgrade, then it will disappear. Finally, keep in mind that while Arcade Mode does not allow saving, you can play a level anytime via Single World mode provided that you managed to reach the beginning of that world in Arcade Mode first.

World 1-1

Guide Image

This is a quick one with only a few enemies. Each world is divided into around 16 different levels where you must usually defeat all the enemies to proceed. When an enemy starts glowing pink then you'll know it is the last target for that floor. Kill it and you should be able to proceed. Don't forget to shoot the bushes in the northeast corner to find a Secret Human (1/5).

World 1-2

Guide Image

You will also receive bonus points for completing certain feats in a level such as saving every human or completing a level without dying.

Guide Image

This floor is where enemies will start approaching in swarms from multiple directions. Should be pretty simple still so clear them while making sure to check the north end of the level to find a Beacon (1/3) you can destroy.

World 1-3

Guide Image

Here you'll encounter the very first wandering human. Grab him to get a free 10,000 points bonus then head to the northeast corner, and shoot tall pile of black crates. Behind it is what looks like an ATM machine. Destroy it to find a Secret Exit (1/3). Thin out the enemies first before targeting the machine, so you don't get trapped while shooting it. Once the portal is unlocked, complete the level as usual and you will automatically be taken to the hidden floors.

Secret Level 1

Guide Image

For this level, there are two visitors and four humans (there could be more humans in higher difficulties). Visitors are the green/red centipede creatures that travel along a set path on the screen. Destroy all of its parts for the kill to count. The first Visitor (1/5) will emerge from the pipe in the southeast corner just ahead of your starting point, and the second Visitor (2/5) will come from the same pipe a bit later in the level. They drop multipliers when defeated.

Guide Image

You will also encounter a new type of enemy that will specifically target humans and try to harvest them. You can run in and grab its victim or kill the creature to save the human. Should the harvesting process complete, the human will be lost.

World 1-4

Guide Image

Three humans to save after fighting off a rather large swarm of bugs. Quickly grab the first two humans then kill the bugs until there's only one left. Grab the remaining human then complete the level.

World 1-5

Guide Image

Three humans and one Visitor (3/5). The latter will emerge from a portal in the top-middle section of the level, and circle around near the center of the area before going back into the portal. You have to be quick if you want to destroy it.

World 1-6

Guide Image

Destroy the first wave of enemies then dash under the laser. Before turning south however make sure you shoot the pile of black boxes to the right to free a Secret Human (2/5).

Guide Image

Go around to the southeast corner next and destroy the black crates here as well. You'll find a Secret Exit (2/3) this time. Turn your attention to the last few enemies and complete the level.

Secret Level 2

Guide Image

In this floor you will be facing a large swarm of hostiles in a rather limited space, so you'll want to move to the right as soon as possible to avoid getting trapped in the corner where you started. There are four humans here; try saving all of them if you can. Otherwise, you may have to leave of them behind. Also in the northeast corner is a special weapon box. Shoot it and grab your desired secondary weapon.

Secret Level 3

Guide Image

What you're going to want to do here is to dash toward the northeaset section of the platform as soon as possible, and get rid of the three guns in the middle from there. If you can grab a Shield to protect yourself then all the better, as it won't be long before bugs start swarming to your position. Once most of the guns are gone, you can gradually work your way back to the middle of the area to clear out any stragglers and rescue humans.

Secret Level 4

Guide Image

Here we have four humans and more enemies than the previous floor. You also have more space to move around though so its not a big deal. Also be sure to grab any powerup if the enemies drop them. Weapon Spread in particular is especially useful, even more so if combined with Weapon Range. There are several harvesters on this floor as well so you'll want to be quick if you want to save all the humans.

World 1-7

Guide Image

To start dash under the laser toward the middle and shoot the cannons to disable the beams. Alien hordes will appear from the top and bottom as well, so clear them out and save the four humans on this floor before they are harvested.

World 1-8

Guide Image

Here, you begin at the southwest corner and make your way around to the northwest. On the way are the usual alien hordes to defeat, as well as four humans to save. Destroy the laser cannons or dash under the beams. Once you get to the broken end of the walkway, turn west to find a hidden path. Head north here for another Secret Human (3/5) plus a Beacon (2/3) next to him.

World 1-9

Guide Image

Navigate eastward past the moving laser traps and once you reach the end, head up to destroy the portal where the aliens are emerging from. Further to the left at the center is a black crate. Destroy this and you'll find one more Secret Human (4/5) and another Beacon (3/3) straight ahead.

World 1-10

Guide Image

Here we have a large open area with four humans and a rather large swarm of enemies. There are no special collectibles here however so don't bother to look for them. There is a Visitor (4/5) that emerges somewhere around the upper-middle section of the area though.

World 1-11

Guide Image

Run up to the northeast corner of the floor and destroy the black crate. The box behind it contains the last Secret Human (5/5) for this level. Also at the center of the area is where a Visitor (5/5) arrives. There are four other humans waiting to be saved here as well. The three portals at the top of the area is where the enemies are coming from. Destroy those to thin their numbers quickly.

World 1-12

Guide Image

When you first arrive in this level, the Secret Exit (3/3) is where the laser cannon on the upper right corner is attached to. There are four humans to save and a horde of small spherical enemies to fight against.

Secret Level 5

Once again there are four humans on this level. Clear the initial group of spherical hostiles, and the next ones will start firing pink laser beams that covers most of the eastern section. Move to the southwest edge and grab your secondary weapon of choice. Defeat the remaining stragglers afterward to complete the level.

World 1-13

Guide Image

Here are more sphere enemies plus two moving laser beams. You can dash under the beams as usual or shoot the cannons to disable them. Make sure you snag the three wandering humans before completing the level.

World 1-14

Guide Image

Quick one here. Grab the three humans fast enough and you should easily get a trophy for getting 5x human combo. That is if you have not already unlocked it. Defeat the two harvesters afterward to put this one away.

World 1-15

Guide Image

This is one big arena full of enemies. You'll want to try and eliminate the portals as quickly as possible, to thin the horde out quickly. As for humans, there are five of them here. Two at the top and three at the bottom. The Weapon Spread powerup is extremely useful here so hopefully you can get one of the enemies to drop it. Once all the enemies are defeated the boss will appear.

World 1-16

Guide Image

The battle against Beamtron has three phases. For the first phase, it will simply fire one wide laser beam that spins around over and over. Circle around away from the beam and shoot the boss until the second phase commences.

Guide Image

For phase 2, Beamtron will start releasing skull projectiles in addition to the spiining laser. These skull projectiles have gaps between them. Weave through these gaps while moving away from the laser. Continue damaging the enemy until you reach the last phase.

Guide Image

Now for phase 3, the boss will fire four laser beams in an X pattern. Continue moving in a circle away from the beams, while weaving between the the skull projectiles at the same time. Keep shooting Beamtron until you defeat it.
