Points are rewarded for touchdowns, kicking field goals or just for gaining yards.

The game is geared up for speed so the quicker you pick and run plays the more successful you will be. The game clock does not stop, even when you pick plays or run out of bounds. One thing you can do to save time is to make your recievers run routes that do not involve a lot of sideways movement. Also go for the fourth down instead of kicking the field goal as a fourth down run or pass is worth more points.

Try to accumulate points as quickly as you can so you fill up the meter and unlock tactical choices on the playcall screen which will improve your chances of winning the game. When you come across a play that works against the defense keep playing it to rack up points until they figure out a play to counteract it.
