Passing Guide for Madden NFL 20

Even if you know your playbook inside out and are great at reading the field it is still essential that you master all five of the different passes and know when to use them. Our Passing Guide for Madden NFL 20 will help you to understand each one of them.

Touch Passes

Touch passes are basically normal throws which are slower than bullet passes and have a slight arc in their flight. This is an accurate type of pass which is easy for both offense and defense to catch. Unless you have to throw into a crowd or your reciever is being closely played man-to-man the touch pass is usually the best option.

Bullet Passes

This is the quarterback's fastest throw and most difficult type of ball to catch or intercept. Bullet passes are usually thrown around chest high and travel in a straight line which makes them easy for defensive lineman to deflect. when thrown by poor quarterbacks bullet passes tend to be inaccurate and difficult for receivers to handle.

Lob Passes

These are long high-arcing throws which have more velocity than touch passes but are slower than bullet passes. Lineman will be unable to deflect lob passes due to their high arc and the defense will not be able to deflect the during the balls flight until it reaches the reciever. Lob passes have the longest flight time which give both receivers and defenders plenty of time to get there. This makes them easy to defend agaisnt, they should only be used when you have a streaking reciever wide open or as a last-second desperation throw.

High Passes

This type of pass is targeted above the receivers head and will fly as fast as a touch pass. It has a lower arc than a lob pass and when thrown correctly will allow the reciever to jump up and make the catch with a less chance of being intercepted. The reciever though is at risk of being tackled immediately upon catching the ball if the defender is nearby. High passes are best used when the reciever only has one defender to beat and they should be avoided with poor quarterbacks as they tend to overthrow them.
