Loot River Beginner Tips and Tricks

Listed below are several Beginner Tips and Tricks which will help you in Loot River.

Get Through Levels Quickly

In Loot River it is more beneficial if you move through the levels as quickly as you can rather than trying to defeat every foe you encounter along the way. When you manage to successfully get through a level fast you will be rewarded with special boons, this will be most notable in the first level of each run. It is essential you do this at the start of the game in The Sunken Village where if you can finish the zone in under two minutes will give you access to a huge amount of knowledge that will let you unlock weapons, spells, and more right off the bat.

Master Parrying

It is essential that you become proficient at parrying in Loot River as being able to land a perfect parry during combat will enable you to stun your foe and leave them open to a critical attack. Once you have mastered the art of parrying you will be able to make easy work of taking down the more formidable opponents you encounter and get a unique critical animation as a reward.

Take Advantage of Platforms

The tetromino-shaped platforms are the standout feature that sets Loot River apart from other roguelike games. Remember that not only can you control these platforms during the game to ferry yourself along the titular river, but you can also use them to get a massive advantage in combat scenarios as they allow you the ability to split the battlefield apart, separating large groups of enemies into smaller more manageable chunks. You can also use platforms to flank an unsuspecting enemy mid-combat or make quick retreats if your character needs to heal.

Spending Skill Points

In Loot River it is important that you study your stats when it's time to spend your Skill Points to level up as they will affect more than just your health and damage. Spend your Skill Points on adjusting your build around whichever weapon you are using as there are some stats that will provide benefits that will help you considerably during your run. For instance, investing Skill Points on your Strength will increase the amount of knockback your weapon inflicts on enemies, spending them on your Intelligence will increase your Crit Multiplyer and putting them into Endurance will not only increase your poise, but also widen your parry window.

Experiment with Gears and Abilities Early

If you are finding yourself struggling to progress early in Loot River don't be afraid to experiment with the different gears and abilities that are available. The game offers plenty of weapons, spells, and abilities and by trying them out you will be able to find a combination that will suit your playstyle and help you progress past whatever it is that is giving you trouble.

Spend your Currency

As you progress through Loot River defeating enemies your character will absorb two types of currency as a reward. The standard currency, gold can be used to purchase weapons and accessories from merchants within the canals. The other blue currency, called Knowledge, is far more valuable and can be used to further the game's progression by unlocking tools that will carry over into future runs. Keep in mind that if you die, all the currency you accumulated will be lost, so you need to make sure you spend it whenever possible to get better weapons and spells to improve your chances against the foes you will encounter in the catacombs of future runs.

Save your Potions for Later Levels

In Loot River there is an alchemist at the entrance of every level who offers a boost with your potions if you invest in his stock. If you give him one potion and survive the area, you will be rewarded with double the amount given upon entering the next area. This means that if you play it safe and just invest one potion you will only receive two heals per level. Investing three or four potions will give you a far greater return. Once you feel confident you can pass the early levels without healing you should take up Soap's offer, so you have as many heals as possible for the later trickier levels. Take a look at our How to Heal HP Trick to find out how you can fully replenish your health without returning to the Sanctuary's hub area to use a potion.
