Like all tower defense games, Kingdom Rush’s gameplay involves the strategic distribution or placement of towers along a map. There are no special moves, or buttons, that the player has to press or perform. All that is required is a simple tap here and there.
Gameplay for Kingdom Rush begins quickly as soon as soon as the game is launched–no lengthy storytelling takes place. Instead, the story is slowly explained to the player before every stage begins. One of the most important choice that you will have to make at the beginning of the game is the choice for the difficulty mode. For Kingdom Rush, there are three levels of difficulties available: Casual, Normal, and Veteran. You may try out any level to see which one is comfortable for you and then change the level of difficulty before a stage begins.
The first stage in the game involves you, the nameless general, leading your forces to the Southport, where you’ve received initial reports of attacks against the inhabitants in that particular area. As stated earlier, you may change the level of difficulty of the game. But if the Veteran level still does not give you the challenge you really seek, then tap on the second and third scrolls at the beginning of the stage to take on the Heroic and Iron Challenges.
The Heroic and Iron Challenges both have certain limits presented to the players. Each challenge can be a combination of the following limits or, well, challenges:
- Elite enemy forces
-1 available life
-No Heroes
-No Archers or Mage
-No Barracks
-No Artillery
-Barracks only
-Archers only
-Mage only
Once a game commences, you will immediately be shown a few tips and hints on how to begin the battle. After that, an empty map – devoid of towers – awaits your call. In the map you will have to select which type of tower you will want to build. There are four basic types of towers available, with eight Upgrades for each type of tower. These towers are:
- Archers
-Mage
-Barracks
-Artillery
When selecting which tower to build, you will also have to take into account the price of each tower to the amount of money you have in the game. In this game, there is no waiting time to build towers–the only main limitation is the amount of gold you have available to purchase towers and tower Upgrades.
After your first run on the first level of battle, you may now purchase a few battle items at the shop with your Gems. You may also opt to upgrade your skills once you’ve earned enough stars in the game. These skills can be used to strengthen and fortify your towers attack, range, and even precision.
Throughout the game there are also a couple of achievements waiting to be completed. Then after a few completed stages, you may unlock the Rage Valley stage wherein you are presented which is an endless stage where you will face an infinite number of Orcish Horde that is ready to attack the Linirea.
For this endless stage you could also select the difficulty level but you will only have 10 lives at the maximum.
