Grinding and farming XP will only take you so far in Hogwarts Legacy. The main currency used in the game is galleons and these gold coins can be used to purchase many useful items, from potent potion ingredients to sleek brooms and Gladrags Wizardwear. Galleons also play a huge part in your character's development so obtaining this currency is essential. Take a look at this Best Ways to Make Money Guide to find out the different ways you can fill your coin purse in Hogwarts Legacy.

Sell Old Gear

One of the quickest ways to obtain galleons in Hogwarts Legacy is to sell the gear you don't need to vendors. As you explore the open-world completing main and side quests you will pick up new gear and items. The game encourages you to continually equip new gear with better stats which means you will find your inventory will quickly be full of obsolete gear items. Although it is possible to upgrade gear it is recommended that you save your resources and instead sell anything you don't need.

If you are playing Hogwarts Legacy on PlayStation you should definitely try to complete the 'Minding Your Own Business' side quest which is exclusive to that console, as it enables you to open your own Hogsmeade shop to get slightly better rates for selling gear. This quest takes place after Charles Rockwood's Trial.

Open Eyeball Chests

Eyeball chests are littered throughout Hogwarts Legacy, they can be found inside houses, shops, Hogwarts castle, caves and forests. However, in order to open an eyeball chest you must be invisible to hide from their eyeball which follows you once spotted. This means you must either learn the Disillusionment spell or brew invisibility potions. Almost all eyeball chests contain 500 galleons.

Clear Enemy Camps

You can get galleons by clearing enemy camps using your Ancient Magic. There are three types of enemies: Ashwinders, Poachers, and Loyalists. Ashwinders and Poachers are human enemies that belong to Victor Rookwood's gang. Loyalists are all Goblin followers of Ranrok. You can find the location of the enemy camps on the map using your waypoint tool. Once you have defeated all the enemies in the area you will be able to find a few coin pouches you can pick up. In addition, you can sell off any gear items you collect from the Collection Chest that is found at an enemy camp.

Sell Beasts

The most efficient way to get galleons comes when you unlock the ability to rescue Hogwarts Legacy beasts. All you need to do is snag up every critter wandering around the monster dens into your Nab-Sack. You can sell each beast you collect at the Brood & Peck shop in Hogsmeade for 120 galleons each. You can also breed the beasts you capture at the Vivarium and then sell them on. Take a look at our Legacy Beast Locations Guide to find out where you can find these magical creatures.

Ask Quest Givers for Money

When you complete a side quest in Hogwarts Legacy there will sometimes be given an option to ask for an additional fee from the quest giver who will often pay up. This is always worth doing as there is little to no consequence in doing so and you need all the galleons you can get your hands on to purchase gear, brooms, potions and their ingredients, and Room of Requirement Conjuration Spellcrafts.
