I know of no difference except the Elite Four is only the first four trainers of the Pokemon league, and the league includes your Rival.

Pokemon League=Where Elite Four are at.

Elite 4 is the loser 4...you beat them and you will have the chance to beat the Champion and try to out win him...if you do then you will be the Pokemon champ
