Question for Pokemon FireRed

Ok, I've fought the Elite 4 several times and just can't get past my rival. I need advice on what I should do differently. Here's my team:

Blastoise lvl 81
Strength
Hydro pump
Substitute
Bite

Dewgong lvl 54
Blizzard
Aurora Beam
Take Down
Ice Beam

Zapdos lvl 57
Thunder Wave
Thunder
Steel Wing
Drill Peck

Kadabra lvl 58
Thief
Confusion
Flash
Psychic

Ch'ding lvl 68
Fly
Slash
Fury Attack
False Swipe

Dragonite lvl 55
Surf
Wing Attack
Fire Blast
Slam

Is it a matter of just upping their levels now or am I missing something here? Thanks for your help!

Well, upping the levels would help a lot. Your sets don't really work at all. I can help you further if you go the Pokemon Team Rating Forum. The team has a supreme disadvantage.

With those Pokemon it shoudnt be hard at all to beat the elite 4 even at those lvls maybe all you need is some items so buy some reives and hyper poitons if you need money just use the amulet coin

cyber_john3000 answered:

First ditch that ch-ding of yours so as Dewgong

Blast: Surf,Ice beam, Hydro cannon, Body Slam/Strenght

Zapdos: thunder, thunder bolt, Drill peck, agility

Kadabra: Calm Mind, Shadow Ball, Psychic, Mirro coat

Dragonite: Ice beam,Surf, Thunder Bolt and Flamethrower

I think it's your choice of moves that's causing you a big problem. Like why give Blastoise Substitute or Strength? Surf, Ice Beam, Blizzard, even Skull Bash would be better in my opinion. Dewgong is OK, I guess, if he works for you, but why not throw in a Water Move? Zapados shouldn't have Thunder Wave-it's too weak really. Kadabra is all messed up-Flash makes me want to cry, Thief is OK if you're on a stealing mission-I have 1 Alakazam with it for that purpose(and stole a lot of good stuff on Victory Road), and use a different one for battle. Even Rest, Psybeam, Psychic, and maybe something else like Shadow Ball would be a little better! And see if you can find someone to Trade him with so he can Evolve into Alakazam, too. Farfetch'd is an OK Poke earlier in the game, but not for this mission! And Dragonite, well, I'm confused by his moves sort of-Surf and Slam seem Pointless sort of, perhaps Earthquake or Dragon Claw??? It'll be a while until he gets any more moves. Your levels would probably be OK if you had the right moves, maybe get them all at 60 or higher at least though-that's the highest level you'll face, but your Blastoise is really high, so remember that and use it to your advantage. Bring along a bunch of supplies (Elixirs, Revives, Potions, etc, plus you should give all of your Pokemon items to help them out! Mystic Water for Blastoise, Never-Melt Ice for Dewgong, Quick Claw for your slowest one, and Leftovers for those with lower HP's-you can get 2 by going to where the Snorlaxes were and using your itemfinder right on the spots they were sleeping)and save after you get past the E4, then if you lose to your Rival, you can try him again and again without having to start all over again! If you battle him a few times, you may be able to see what you need to do differently or just try other ways to knock him out. Good Luck! Just make some changes and you'll be fine! And you can always try an X Attack or X Defense or something for that Rival battle if you think that will help, too. (I wouldn't know as I was pretty overtrained and had no problem really, but that's what they're there for right?)

Dewgong is good, Aurora Beam and Ice Beam are ace moves. Maybe you should drop Take Down and take up Surf - it will work wonders.

Zapdos - why teach it thunder wave? Add Thunderbolt instead - it is a much better move.

Kadabra is messed up, Flash? Why teach it that? Psybeam would be better than Confusion and if you hadnt taught it Flash you could have taught it Recover.

Blastoise is messed up badly! Go to Two Island (i think) and get the woman to teach you the special move. Also teach it Surf and Skull Bash and it'll be good. Ch'ding - well I would drop it for a grass Pokemon. But if you want to keep it -I would drop fury attack if I were you.

My dragonite is level 84 - it knows Surf, Flamethrower, Thunderbolt and hyber beam/outrage.

IT NEEDS TRAINING - TAKE MY TIPS AND YOU MIGHT BE OK!!

Ok, I hadn't tried the Elite 4 in a couple of days when I posted that, so I went back and tried again and beat them and my Rival. I'm new at this!!! It's my son's game and I got addicted to it helping him out (he's 7!) How do I get those other moves like skull bash, etc., if it never offers to teach them? I took my blastoise to the house on Island 2 and the lady said it wasn't a blastoise. Why's that? Thanks everyone for the advice. I will read through it all and make all the appropriate changes for my next go-round with the Elite 4. Thanks again!

Well, I'd say your team is actually pretty decent. Some could use better moves though. Anyways, Your Blastoise looks totally prepared,However,I'd replace something with Surf for when you want more accuracy than Hydro Pump. Dewgong Should have Surf over Take Down(it's just a good water type attack to have). I do know a good place to train that got my lv.59 Blastoise up to Lv.72. The place is Ruin Valley on one of the Sevii Islands. There are 3 hikers there. Top hiker has 2Lv.48Gravelers+Lv.48Onix,
Middle hiker has a GolemLv.50,
Bottom hiker has 2Lv.54Machokes.

Dewgong will be great for the top and middle one,
Any of your flying types could take on the bottom hiker with little or no problem. Just keep using the Vs. Seeker by them until you get your Pokemon to at least Lv.67-73, then try challenging the Elite 4.
