Ranking the Six Johto Megas

#5 - Mega Steelix

All of the Johto Mega Evolutions were given within Pokemon X and Y, all except Mega Steelix. Mega Steelix was the only Johto Pokemon to get its Mega Evolution in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, and no Pokemon Fan really saw it coming. We knew Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire would focus more on Hoenn Pokemon receiving Mega Evolutions, but we also knew Pokemon from other Generations would also be given the same treatment. However, there were plenty of other Johto Pokemon that deserved a Mega Evolution more than Mega Steelix. Skarmory, for one, would have made for a much better Mega Pokemon, but the Pokemon Creators decided otherwise.

Now as a Mega Evolution, Steelix is a pretty good Pokemon. It has extraordinary defensive stats, but that about all it has going for it. Defensive Pokemon aren't the most flashy Pokemon, but the still can get the job done. Just look at Mega Slowbro. It has INCREDIBLE defensive stats, and it can still sweep teams with its offensive power. Now Mega Steelix is a lot like Mega Slowbro, but for some reason it just doesn't compare to it. Mega Steelix doesn't really have stat boosting moves like Mega Slowbro does, and it could really use some to get more offensive power. It also was stuck with Sand Force as its ability; it's good in a sandstorm, but without one, Mega Steelix is just another bulky defensive Pokemon.

If Mega Steelix just had a better ability and a little less defense for a little more offense, it wouldn't be ranked this low on our list. Something like Adaptability or Sheer Force would have done some serious good for Mega Steelix, and made it a much better, more balanced Pokemon. It just seems like Mega Steelix was just rushed together to get another Mega Evolution for the Third Generation Sequels.

#4 - Mega Houndoom

We'd love to say that this is the point where the best of best begin to shine, but we just can't say that with Mega Houndoom. Its just such a mediocre Pokemon, especially when compared to the rest of the Mega Evolutions in existence. It has a very nice, WICKED design, but there is so much more to a Pokemon besides design.

Mega Houndoom actually has some pretty good stats. Its Speed Base Stat sits at 115, which is pretty good. It would have been nice to see it have a Speed Stat of at least 130, but it's still not not THAT bad. It also has a Base Attack Stat of 140. Now that's some serious power, but it STILL could be better... And that's really how we could describe Mega Houndoom: A Mega Pokemon that could do better. Like we said, they're not bad statistics; we just wish they were better. If Mega Houndoom had a little less defensive stats AND a little less Attack Stat, and it was given to its Speed and Special Attack, Mega Houndoom would be an INCREDIBLE Mega Evolution. But it didn't...

It also didn't get THAT great of an ability. Drought may take Mega Houndoom's Special Attack to a whole nother level, but that HAS to happen in the sunlight. Without the sunlight, Mega Houndoom remains that mediocre Pokemon. Drought also causes Mega Houndoom to lose crucial Hit Points, which is NEVER good. Something like Drought would have been much better, since it would have further boosted its Fire Type Attacks. The best ability for it would have been Sheer Force; it would have made Mega Houndoom INSANE! And if it had received Sheer Force AND had been given better Attack and Speed Stats, then Mega Houndoom would have been UBER INSANE! And it actually would have been ranked higher than this...
