Even if you are a member of the youngest gamer gen you know what pinball is - heck you can still find commercial arcade pinball practically everywhere these days - and for good reason.

While the pinball table as a game genre was well established by the 1960s some serious credit is due to singer/songwriter Pete Townshend and the English rock band The Who, who featured a song called “Pinball Wizard”on their 1969 rock opera album Tommy - a song that helped catapult pinball play back into the mainstream and keep it there.

Of course playing on a real pinball table is a vastly different experience than playing a pinball table on your XBox - but still as much as it can do, Pinball FX2 nicely translates that experience to the console.

A free-to-play title for both the X360 and X1, the primary revenue stream for the game is the tables it has on offer, which are largely theme-based and celebrate a number of popular video game and movie IPs.

Even better still, certain tables purchased for Pinball FX edition are free on the FX2 edition for those who bought them.

About those tables - while the offerings differ slightly between the two versions, Pinball FX2 for the Xbox One includes some rather exciting and challenging table designs that span IPs that include the Star Wars Collection (11 tables) and the Marvel Collection (20 tables) that ranges from Wolverine to the Avengers and every hero in between.

Among the more unique tables though are video game-based offerings (Castle Storm, Epic Quest, Rome and Eldorado) to tables that celebrate Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and a Street Fighter II tribute table for Capcom.

FX2 includes leaderboards and online multi-player play for up to four players. Factor in the emphasized competition between you and your mates - the game (both versions) tends to really push the score-based supremacy for your attention - and what you have is a competitive pinball environment that may easily suck you in.

Which is how Pinball FX2 scored the Number Three Slot on our Top 10 F2P Game Countdown!
