Top 10 Video Game Christmas Presents

4. Wolfenstein: The New Order

Available Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One

Price Range: $30 - $40

Released earlier this year, Wolfenstein: The New Order is an incredibly underrated game. Unlike the 2009 Wolfenstein game which flopped horribly, The New Order is actually really good. In fact, The New Order was recently nominated for Best Shooter and Best Narrative at The Game Awards 2014 earlier this month. It may not have won but just being nominated is testament to its surprising level of quality considering how it completely flew under the radar of so many gamers.

One thing going for it is that the game has no multiplayer mode. In a previous article, I argued that games used to be a lot better before online multiplayer became a thing so the fact The New Order doesn't have multiplayer is a plus in my opinion and not a negative. MachineGames, The New Order's developer, was able to focus solely on creating an awesome single-player campaign without having to worry about working on both single and online multiplayer modes. The extra time spent shoring up the campaign also added to its length. It takes between twelve and fifteen hours to beat.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is a throwback to what shooting games used to feel like. Not just because it's a Wolfenstein game, but also because it has a crazy alternative history storyline, a badass main character, and a vast array of awesome weaponry at your disposal such as the powerful LaserKraftWerk. This is what shooters like Duke Nukem and DOOM were built upon and Wolfenstein: The New Order does it very well.

3. Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection

Available Platforms: PlayStation 3

Price Range: $70 - $ 75

Know someone that is a huge Metal Gear fan? The Legacy Collection could be the perfect gift for them then (as long as they have a PS3 anyway)! The Legacy Collection is actually eight games in one and includes the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake as well as Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, VR Missions, and Peace Walker HD. It is the ultimate collection for any Metal Gear fan!

The Legacy Collection may seem a bit pricey at seventy bucks but when you consider some of the older games are getting hard to find it becomes clear that it's well worth the price tag. For example, a brand new copy of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater for PS2 itself is around $35 on Amazon.

The Legacy Collection is a good gift idea for gamers who haven't played any of the Metal Gear games as a way of introducing them to the franchise but as already mentioned, it's also great for a die-hard fan. Not only will this make for a good collector's item but most people probably haven't played the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2. Many Metal Gear fans today likely started the series with Metal Gear Solid on PlayStation.

Being able to play Peace Walker without a PSP is another perk of the collection as it's not normally available for PS3 on its own. There's bound to be at least one game on the collection that is new to the recipient.
