Top 10 Video Game Christmas Presents

6. Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition

Available Platforms: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Price Range: $30 - $50

Diablo is one of those video game franchises that have a long and storied history of success. The original Diablo was released back in 1996 and was unlike anything else at the time. Diablo II then came along in 2000 and was built specifically around online play. The second game had several series innovations like character classes that made it feel a lot different from its predecessor. Diablo III may not be as groundbreaking as either of the first two Diablo games, but it is still a blast to play online with friends.

Diablo III is an action-based dungeon crawler. Rather than simply descending through numerous levels of a single dungeon, Diablo III is very story driven and is broken down into different acts. Diablo III has a heavy “angels vs. demons” theme to it so it might be of interest to someone who is a fan of the show Supernatural.

Diablo III was first released on consoles in 2013 but the Ultimate Evil Edition just came out earlier this year and includes loads of new expansion content such as new areas, new bosses, “Legendary Gems,” and more. You'll definitely want to go with the Ultimate Evil Edition over the regular Diablo III so you get all this extra content.

If the person you're buying for already has Diablo III, however, then the Ultimate Evil Edition may not actually have enough new content to warrant giving as a gift and you would be better served getting something else on the list instead.

5. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Available Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One

Price Range: $50 - $60

Of course this year's Call of Duty game would have to make the list at some point. The Call of Duty franchise is admittedly getting tired and many fans of the series have grown bored with it. But Advanced Warfare is different from past games in a lot of ways so it is still a highly sought after Christmas present this year. Even gamers who weren't planning on getting Advanced Warfare on their own would likely be pleased to open this game on Christmas.

First of all, Advanced Warfare is much faster-paced than Call of Duty players are typically used to (though not quite up to Titanfall levels). You can literally jump all around the map thanks to the Exo suit which superpowers soldiers with special abilities including stealth camouflage. If you've played the Crysis games online and hated how players would constantly go invisible and ambush you, don't let that put you off Advanced Warfare. Going invisible is not really as prevalent or as powerful in Advanced Warfare as it was in Crysis.

Many gamers will also be able to enjoy Advanced Warfare for the campaign. Call of Duty used to be well-known for its epic single player campaigns. Over the years, the franchise has paid more and more attention to multiplayer and less to the quality of the campaign but Kevin Spacey playing a role in this year's game has once again put attention back on the single player. The campaign takes anywhere between seven and ten hours to beat depending on the difficulty which makes it the longest Call of Duty game since the original Black Ops.
