Top 10 TV Shows that Should be Made into a Major Game

7. Hannibal

One of the strongest spectacles to roar through TV sets lately, Hannibal takes lore about a highly intelligent serial killer and makes an artwork out of it. Quite directly, this sort of distinguished presence is represented in story and art direction alike. Just watching this series exposes viewers to a veritable tour de force.

Dr. Hannibal Lecter is a forensics psychiatrist, who assists a police force with gruesome murders. Lecter's calm presence exudes a sense of control at all times, which is necessary to balance dark subjects. On the other side of that coin there's protagonist Will Graham, a profiler with an unparalleled empathic vision for a killer's motives. This insight makes Graham mentally unstable, often descending into delirium, which links the character to Hannibal. Given the latter is actually a serial killer the corps is looking for, hiding in plain sight, the cat and mouse dynamic between the two, as well as surrounding characters, is like watching a game of chess. Except in this case, whichever pawn gets eaten has the misfortune of having the term being taken literally, as Lecter also happens to be a cannibal.

Since episodes are so atmospheric, presenting this in game form would be a tough feat to accomplish. Trying to catch the killer through profiling would put too much emphasis on puzzles. While recreating crimes with Will could be interesting, sleuthing would distract from getting caught up in the disturbing plot. Therefore, instead of following Graham, maybe players would like to delve more into the killer's mind. Hannibal just has more to work with. It would be possible to display skill in conversation pieces that put victims at ease, before brutally murdering them. Some could then be served to guests in a cooking or management element, where blending the human meat undetected becomes the goal. Other bodies could be meticulously dissected into one of the show's morbid sculptures. To top it off, the more atrocities are successfully pulled off, the more small artifacts Hannibal could camouflage in the office. It's all about power, control and slight taunts hiding in plain sight after all.
