The Top 10 Most Anticipated Games for the 2014/2015 Video Game Season

05. LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham (14 November Traveller's Tales)

Unless you have been living under a rock and playing all of your games on a console with no 'net connection, you have to have heard of the LEGO game series' - all two billion of them. Seriously though, practically every really interesting IP has had a turn at being LEGO'd, from Indiana Jones to Harry Potter, and every superhero you ever even sort of heard of. Then there are the Star Wars movies - don't even get us started on the Star Wars movies!

Don't take this wrong - we are not complaining. In fact - and we are not sure whether this is a good thing or a bad thing really - in some cases (most notably the Harry Potter series) the LEGO games were actually far better, far more entertaining, and offered much higher replay scores than the traditional main games for the series.

It is not just that they are so damn cute - they are wicked addictive and entertaining. You know the theme song from LEGO Movie? Yeah, well that's because when a game gets LEGO'd Everything really IS Awesome!

So yeah, where were we? Oh! LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is, as you probably figured out on your own, the third game in the LEGO Batman series, and neatly qualifies not just as a superhero game, but also as an action-adventure and puzzle title thanks to the unique game play mechanics that are part of the LEGO process.

Developed by Traveller's Tales for PlayStation 3 and 4, Vita, 3DS, and Wii U, it will also have versions for both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, but that is not all! In addition to the pretty much de rigueur versions for Microsoft's Windows OS and Apple's Mac OS X, this time around the Batster is getting a version for iOS, which means you will be able to get your LEGO-on while you are Oscar Mike, and how freaking cool is that?!

The direct sequel to Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, Beyond Gotham has us once again taking on the role of the Dark Knight, only this time around Brainiac is using the powers of the Rings of each Lantern Corps to take over the universe! How?! you ask? Well hey, we will tell you! He is doing it by using the different rings to shrink the planets in order to make them a convenient size so that he can add them to his growing collection of planets. Seriously.

Now we are pretty sure that Brainiac was not counting on the Batmeister having a problem with that - and in true Dark Knight form, Batman heads off in pursuit of the Legion of Doom by jetting off into the far reaches of space to kick some major super-villain butts!

At this point what we have already told you should be sufficient to the needs of any gamer, anywhere, for any reason. If you are not super-excited and itching to get your hands on this knowing what you now know, you are not actually a gamer, you're our Aunt Michelle and we don't like you!

Among the stand-out (though not unique by any means) features of the game has to include the massive number of characters who participate in this most excellent story. Over 150 to be inexact, including but not limited to LEGO action in the form of pretty much every superhero and villain in the DC Universe, plus Adam West, Vicki Vale, both Super Boy AND Super Girl, and both the classic sidekick Robin AND the alternate universe ones!

Add to that a full compliment of the Bat-tastic Bat-Army that includes the Classic Batman, the comics version, and the TV show Batman, plus Bat-Cow, Bat-Mite, Man-Bat, and Batgirl (both the classic and alternate versions). Did we mention that Frankenstein and Saint Walker - that's right mates, in addition to the Green Lantern army we also get a taste of the Blue Lantern blokes! - are also part of the game?

We touched upon the fact that there are Classic and alternate versions of characters in the game, having already noted that they include Batman himself, Batgirl, and Robin, but you may be very excited to note that additional Classic versions include Alfred, Catwoman, Commissioner Gordon, Joker, and Penguin, there is also a Classic Riddler as well, and how cool is that?!

'You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.'

Even when you do the math - and we did - despite the massive number of Batman games ever made this one is rather special for a number of reasons... But mostly for the number it comes in at, because consider the following:

There are four games in the Arkham series;

Nine games were made based on the film-versions (not counting Dark Knight which was canceled);

Eight games resulted from the animated series;

Six sort of random games span arcade and early console as well as mobile platforms;

And this is officially the third LEGO game (we are not counting the Batster's appearance in LEGO Movie mind you).

So yeah, do the math and LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham officially makes it Batman Video Game Number 30 - that is thirty freaking games starring Batman! Not only is that cool but someone told us that 30 is a powerful number or something. Either way, be excited. Be very excited.
