The Top 10 Most Anticipated Games for the 2014/2015 Video Game Season

07. Assassin's Creed: Rogue (11 November Ubisoft)

Set for release on the PS3 and Xbox 360, Rogue follows the story of the Templar Shay Cormac that takes place between 1752 and 1761 (during the Seven Years' War) making up the final chapter in the legendary Kenway saga.

Set in New York, the River Valley, and the North Atlantic, Rogue takes gamers back to the naval combat, the traditional city-based action, and a combination of the two types of game play taking place in the River Valley reminiscent of the action in AC3.

Rogue is structured around the traditional secrets contained within the Animus, as well as the mission-heavy story - but more important perhaps is the closure that is obtained in the game.

The adventure begins with Captain Shay and his ship the Morrigan, but this time around the traditional boarding focus has been replaced with a more defensive action that involves defending the ship from Assassin-affiliated attackers. And hey, bonus! The sea shanties make a return in the game, heh.

In case you missed it, the focus this time around is Templar-based, what with Shay being a former Assassin who is now a Templar - with the enemy faced being Assassins.

As a result of that shift in point-of-view, the player will get to see the world in an entirely different manner, and the characters that return from the previous game also appear from that perspective.

While the game neatly scores its place on the Top Ten list, it is actually the Collector's Edition that has generated the most buzz - and for good reason. The CE includes the following features:

A retail copy of Assassin's Creed: Rogue.

A collector's box.

A copy of the official soundtrack.

A copy of the official artbook.

Three lithographs.

Two exclusive single player missions: The Siege of Fort de Sable and The Armor of Sir Gunn's Quest.

Rogue will take its place as the eighth title in the Assassin's Creed series, being the direct sequel to 2013's Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, with ties to 2012's Assassin's Creed III and 2014's Assassin's Creed Unity, being what might be called a bridging title.

The AC series has always been about strong characters with well-defined stories - and Rogue is no exception to that rule. The protagonist - Shay Patrick Cormac - starts out as a 21-year-old Assassin recruit who ends up being betrayed and abandoned by the Assassin Order after an assignment goes badly pear-shaped.

Shay turns to the Templar Order both to survive and exact a bit of revenge on his old mates - becoming what may well be the best Assassin Hunter in the history of the Templar Order. Purists will be playing both Rogue and Unity and should be aware that Cormac's actions in the game directly relates to the story in Assassin's Creed Unity.
