Top 10 Unlikely Celebrity Gamers You Might Have Played With

08. Ben Foster (Xbox)

A young, rakish, good looking bloke born in Boston, Ben Foster (The Messenger / 3:10 To Yuma / X-Men: The Last Stand) ended up being raised in Iowa after his folks moved there when he was four.

According to Foster, once he signed on the dotted line for his role in the upcoming movie based on the video game World of Warcraft, immersing himself into the game was a given.

He is one of those actors who strongly believes in researching each role and living it as much as possible, and how else would he find his characters voice if not within the game?

To put that in perspective for you, when he approached his role in Peter Berg's Lone Survivor as Matt 'Axe' Axelson - his preparation for that role included basic and advanced military training and practically living with the Navy SEAL advisers for the film.

To hear Foster tell it, his WoW experiences started out with three weeks of single-player adventuring 'just to get my feet wet and figure out what was happening' that transitioned to exclusively group play, eventually seeing him join two different guilds - one for each of his characters.

Foster doesn't play alone either - to help him get ready for his role, then girlfriend (and now fiancée) Robin Wright (Princess Bride / Forest Gump / House of Cards) also plays the game, and enjoyed teaming up with Foster and joining in guild play.

Wright is no stranger to video games, having voiced her character from the celebrated cult classic The Princess Bride for the 2008 production of The Princess Bride Video Game.

At one point Foster was playing WoW 18-hours-a-day varying between guild play and pick-up adventures with any group that would have him - or them if Wright was playing.

Chances of having played with one or both? A conservative guess would be that hundreds of WoW players - and perhaps as many as a thousand - would have played with them over the months that Foster prepared for his role. So yeah, good chance.
