PowerShell is a powerful scripting tool that can greatly expedite your admin tasks.It is a Microsoft's task automation framework, consisting of a command-line shell and associated scripting language built on .NET Framework. PowerShell provides full access to COM and WMI, enabling administrators to perform administrative tasks on both local and remote Windows systems.

Launching PowerShell 3
Switch to the Start Screen and type PowerShell and hit enter. We can see our version by using the $PSVersionTable special variable.

Launching PowerShell 2
Create a new shortcut on your desktop.

The PowerShell directory has been pulled into our Path at system startup so we can reference the exe by name and pass it a version parameter, Type PowerShell –Version 2 then click next.

If you open your new shortcut and check the PowerShell version with $PSVersionTable, you will see that its now on version 2.
