How to Disable Windows 8’s Adaptive Brightness to Fix Dark Screen Problems

If you just installed Windows 8 on your laptop and the screen won’t stay at the brightness level you want. this is because of the adaptive brightness isn't working on your system. the screen will go dim display when using battery. here’s how to disable it.

What to do:

  1. On the Windows desktop click the power management icon in the tray, and then choose More power options from the menu.


  2. Click the Change plan settings link on the selected plan.


  3. Click the Change advanced power settings link.

  4. Browse down to Display > Enable adaptive brightness, and change the settings there to Off.
