How To Boot Into Windows 8 Safe Mode

The most common steps when troubleshooting a PC is to boot into safe mode. For a long time this has been achieved by pressing the F8 key, this all changes with Windows 8 and its Automatic Repair mode.

What to do:

  1. Press Win+R key to open the Run dialog. type msconfig and launch the utility.

  2. Guide Image

  3. In the Boot tab, check Safe boot, followed by the type of Safe Mode that you want to and click Apply.

  5. You can also choose the type of Safe Mode you want to boot into:

    • Minimal is normal safe mode.

    • Alternate Shell is safe mode with command prompt

    • Network is safe mode with networking.


  6. When you reboot your machine afterwards, it will startup in Safe Mode.


Booting Windows 8 In Safe Mode When PC Is Not Starting


  1. When start up sequence is on going. What you need to do is, past the BIOS splash screen, hold down the Shift key and repeatedly hit the F8 key. to Open Recovery Option.


  2. Once the Recovery screen is displayed, click the See advanced repair options button. In the next screen, hit the Troubleshoot button.

  4. Click Advanced options, Windows Startup Settings.

  6. The next screen will ask you to restart your PC. Select Restart
