Question for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

I am collecting tears for the third temple and I think I have made a mistake.

I have 3 tears left and I know that the last one is the sub-boss, but the other two are in lake hylia. Everybody says that you can get those by just warping to the lake. HERE IS THE PROBLEM:

When I left the lake on the twilight bird (or whatever) I hadn't killed the other twilight monsters in order to open the portal. Is there another way to get back to lake hylia other than warping? I know someone said it had something to do with the boat rental spot, but they weren't specific enough, so I didn't know what they were talking about. I don't even know if that's true.


PLEASE HELP ME IF YOU CAN
I would like to not have to start over.

There is a howling stone by the lady with the big head. Near there, there is a reed that you can use to call the twilight bird and you can fly it back to the lake
