I can't find the big key in the Twilight realm where zant is...

Hi everyone, I'm a huge zelda fan and I really want to defeat Twilight Princess, but I can't seem to find the big key to open up zant's door in the twilight realm. OK, I'm thinking it's behind the waterfall of darkness because my compass says so and when I go back there, there's nothing there. I have tried killing all of the monsters and then going back there, but nothing seems to work... Can someone please tell me what I'm missing?
