Yes the guild exists all you need to do is being arrested the a dunmer will come give you a note but if you don't wanna be arrested you can just persuade a begger to at least 80 and ask him about the gray fox and the do as he says. (when he asks you why you wanna know about him DONT answer beacause I wanna kill him then he'll like you less)

Yes, the Thieves Guild does exist. You can simply wither go to the waterfront around midnight and talk to them, persuading required. You can get arrested and a Dunmer will give you a note. That's the two ways I got into the Thieves Guild. The first one is a lot easier.

Easiest way is to check out the poster of the Gray Fox, then go to the Waterfront District and talk to Armand Christophe inside his house.
Then go to the campfire at night in the slums and do the quest to join the guild.

Ya if you just read a poster then sleep someone will approach you, or just go to the garden of dareloth in the imperial citys waterfront district.

There are two ways of getting in the Thieves Guild
1) Do a crime and do your time in prison.
2) Raise a beggars disposition and he'll tell you (recommended)
