Im on first floor and can not connect stairs to second floor

Make sure that on the second floor, the place where you will put your stairs is free from any object. You should also lean your stairs to a wall. Another thing, you should build a rooms first in the second floor so that you can connect your stairs from first to second floor. Hope this helps
