Following the opening sequence, you are placed into a short tutorial. This is the perfect time to familiarize yourself with the controls and basic maneuvers. Perform the actions displayed on the left side of the screen and pay attention to the explanations given. For additional information on the different maneuvers and other aspects of Assassin�s Creed, check out the 'The Basics' section.

Achievement Tip - Hungerer of Knowledge: During most of the cutscenes in Assassin�s Creed, a graphical glitch appears. When you notice one of these occasional glitches, press any button to view that portion of cutscene from an alternate angle. An achievement on the Xbox 360 version requires you to see 85% of these memory glitches. So, while watching a cutscene, keep your finger on any button and watch attentively for the glitch graphic.
While following the arrow on the GPS, hold the Legs button while in High Profile to cross the gaps along the way. Climb up the ladder that you come to. Lock onto the target and kill him in any fashion you wish. After the short cutscene, use the ladder to climb down to the area below. Approach the group of Templar in the distance. Lock onto Robert de Sable and attempt to assassinate him. No matter which method you choose, Robert overpowers you.
Use Free-Run to jump up the platforms nearby. Altair can also run up certain walls; use Free-Run and connect with a wall to quickly scale it. You�ll have to do some climbing in the next area. To start climbing, hug the wall while in High Profile and press the Legs button to grab the nearest ridge. Once on the wall, simply move towards the closest ridge to ascend.

After a brief conversation, follow the marker on the GPS to reach the fortress. Make your way up through the village and enter the fortress. Inside, take the stairs up to reach Al Mualim.

You receive word that the village is under attack by Templar. Exit the fortress and start down towards the village below. Altair stops to have a short conversation with someone. Following that, you are instructed to take out your Long Sword. Press Right to select the Long Sword and continue down the sloping path. You�ll have your first real taste of combat here. Basic combat maneuvers will appear on the left side of the screen to help you out. Continue towards the arrow marker on the GPS until time fast forwards. Climb up the ladder that is pointed out to you.

Stand on the ledge and watch as the events below unfold. To reach the area below, you must perform a Leap of Faith from the ledge you are standing on. To do so, Free-Run off of the ledge to dive down into the haystack below. A Leap of Faith can only be performed off of a ledge with a haystack below it. A group of pigeons gathered on a ledge signifies that a leap can be done from that ledge.
After the leap, get out of the haystack and use the beam to cross over to the mountain ledge at the other end. When you have crossed all of the beams you come to a wall that you must then scale. At the top of the wall, approach the wooden barrier. Altair automatically strikes it, causing the logs to crush the enemies below.
