The first canon you encounter can't be used yet. When you get to the one were you actualy have a canon ball, place it in the canon, turn the canon to the direction you wish to blow up and put a bomb in it. It should be to the south part!!

You have to find (and then place into the cannon) a giant rock looking thing which is huge. The place a bomb and it will fire the giant ball bullet.
