When you go to the spring turn to the left where you had to crawl through the hole and the wolf will be there.

If you've howled the tune at the stones with the holes in them, then all you need to do is look at your map for the golden wolf icon and go there. I remember that the closest howling stone near Kakariko Village is on the path going up to Death Mountain, where all the steam vents are.
