Top 5 Game Heroes We Want to See Lose

1. Desmond Miles – The Useless

Where previous characters were at least, in some part, vital to the franchise they're tied to, the pinnacle of needlessness in video game heroes is Desmond Miles. Here's a character that is so superfluous that the name won't ring a bell to any outsider of the Assassin's Creed story, as the regular Joe is rarely shown in branding. Not even Ubisoft thinks this bland puppet is an essential part to their games.

Desmond is forced into the Assassin's Creed lore in a pitiful attempt to connect to a contemporary audience, because impersonating a parkour-using vindicator isn't enough for some reason. By having this puppet use the Animus network hub, the series loosely ties itself together. That's really what Desmond is: a puppet; nothing but a catalyst for better things worth exploring.

Lore has gone so far as to make Desmond eternal. That name is tied to the Animus. Then again, since the computer is subject to compromise, hopefully there will be a day where any trace of this figure will be erased. It's not like any content would be lost, since a vessel is already a blank slate.

Seriously, Desmond Miles is a name, not a person. Let it die already.
